TRIGGERED: The Roots of Your Reaction (Week 2)
In this second message of the TRIGGERED series, we explore the roots beneath our reactions. Because here's the truth: our biggest reactions are rarely about the present moment. The trigger is today, but the root? That's often decades old.
Using the story of Cain and Abel from Genesis 4, we discover that God doesn't shame us for our emotions—He invites us to examine their source. We learn how childhood wounds, unmet needs, core beliefs formed in pain, and family patterns create the roots that drive our present-day reactions.
Through powerful biblical examples like Jacob's sons, Saul's jealousy, and Joseph's response to his brothers, we see the difference between unexamined roots that lead to destruction and examined roots that lead to freedom.
We walk through four crucial questions to help you examine your own roots: When did I first feel this way? What did I learn to believe about myself? How is that belief still operating today? And what does the gospel say instead?
The good news? You're not a prisoner of your past. Yes, your past shaped you. Yes, it left wounds. But through Jesus, you can be healed. You can respond from wholeness instead of wounding.
You can't heal what you won't feel. And you can't change what you won't name. This week is about doing the soul work that brings lasting freedom.
